Buying touring skis without bindings makes sense if you already have bindings or want to match each part to your needs. Width determines use: under 80 mm, fast touring and racing; 80 to 90 mm, all-round touring; over 90-95 mm, freetouring. For length, aim for between chin and nose height.
How to complete the ski
Bindings: pin if you prioritise the climb, hybrid if you prioritise the descent with wide skis, or frame bindings for occasional use with alpine boots. The brake should be the same width as the ski’s waist or slightly wider.
Skins: they must cover the length of the ski and its width at the tip, with attachments that fit its tip and tail.
