Choose your ski gloves to suit you

If your hands get cold: mittens are usually warmer, because they keep your fingers together. If the cold is a real problem, there are battery-heated gloves.

For the resort: a glove with a waterproof, breathable membrane such as Gore-Tex, and insulation to match the cold you usually face. Gloves give more dexterity than mittens for doing up boots or working zips.

For touring: on the way up, a very warm glove makes you sweat. Thin gloves for the climb and warmer ones for the descent work better.

Sizing

Measure around your hand at knuckle level, excluding the thumb. The glove should leave a little room at the fingertips: if it’s too tight, it compresses and chills your hand; if there’s too much room, you lose feel when gripping your pole.
